Demand for Scottish salmon has reached a high, with leading supplier Marine Products revealing that over 37,000 packs of its premium salmon fillets are being delivered to Aldi each month – that’s the equivalent of more than one packet sold every 20 seconds.
The figures underline the popularity of Scottish salmon across the country. Rich in omega-3, protein and minerals, it is staple of many diets, from families with young kids to fitness fans, providing a balanced alternative to red and white meat options.
The boom in demand comes as consumers seek not only locally sourced products but healthier, protein-rich meals, with salmon now a firm favourite for family dinners, quick lunches, and special occasions alike. According to Marine Products, sales have been particularly strong among younger shoppers who are turning to salmon as a versatile ingredient that’s easy to cook and packed with nutrients.
Since its retail partnership with Aldi launched in 2016, Marine Products has expanded from just two product lines to an impressive 11 lines today, including its innovative ‘Infusions’ range, which features bold flavours such as Sweet Chilli, Korean BBQ and Lemon, Garlic and Herb. Marine Products also offers seasonal favourites, including whole sides of salmon during the festive period.
Marine Products has a vision to keep premium quality at the heart of its processes and on any given day at the preparation centre in Glasgow there are over 100 highly skilled working to prepare and package the salmon products.
Ian Lonsdale at Marine Products, said: “The appetite for Scottish salmon has never been stronger. We’re supplying thousands of packets to Aldi every week, which works out at nearly three packets sold every minute.
