Some Grub raises £270k in 14 days to scale healthy insect-based dog treats business

Some Grub (www.somegrub.co.uk), an innovative British pet care brand producing health-boosting, planet-friendly and all-natural pet food made from protein-packed bugs and fresh veggies to deliver real, functional health benefits, has secured £270,000 of investment in a record 14 days to scale its business and lead Britain’s insect food revolution.Demand was so high for the brand’s first ever fundraising round, that the business exceeded its goal of £250,000 in just a fortnight. Investment came from SFC Capital, the UK’s leading SEIS Fund, in exchange for a minority stake in the business.Some Grub will deploy the investment to scale the business and grow market share. The capital will be invested in developing exciting new products, growing D2C sales and supporting the brand’s retail partners.The business secured its first national listing at the end of 2024 when it landed a coveted slot in The Co-Op’s Apiary programme, the retailer’s incubator scheme, which seeks out and lists the most innovative and exciting new suppliers. The investment will be deployed to grow sales with Some Grub’s retailers, like The Co-Op, and to support the brand in continuing to extend its national distribution.Some Grub was founded by best friends Ollie Harkus and Ben Chapman, who met at university in Manchester. They say: “We were delighted with the confidence the capital market showed in Some Grub and were pleased that we managed to close our first investment round in just 14 days. Like us, our investors believe that Some Grub will be a game changing business for the pet food industry and has what it takes to become a major player in the category. The £270,000 that we raised will be the fuel the brand needs to rapidly scale, allowing the business to invest in new products and growing sales.“This capital will be deployed to take the Some Grub to the next level, supporting our retail partners and growing distribution so that the business can increase its market share and lead Britain’s insect food revolution.”Some Grub has been created to meet growing consumer demand for pet care products that support both the health of pets and the environmental health of the planet. By harnessing the wellbeing benefits of bugs, Some Grub offers health-conscious pet parents a more ethical, more sustainable and healthier way to feed their beloved animals.The RangeThe brand retails a line of three dog treats that help to boost wellbeing: Superfood, Calming and high-protein Nut Butter.The treats are a great way for owners to train, reward and show love to their pets, whilst looking after their health in the process.
