Online running shoes, running clothing and outdoor gear retailer SportsShoes.com is expanding its Podium race series by holding its first-ever event in Manchester.
SportsShoes Podium MCR takes place at Tameside Cycle Circuit in Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday 16 August. The retailer is delivering the event alongside long-term brand partner, Nike.
The event will feature a series of fast 5K races aimed primarily at runners with a sub-21-minute capability, alongside one-mile races.
The series has been hosting record-breaking 5K events across the UK since 2023, attracting thousands of UK and international athletes during that time. These include Olympians Emile Cairess, Beth Potter, Alex Yee and Narve Nordas.
SportsShoes Podium has a strong record-breaking pedigree, with the Welsh 5K and British U20 records both broken at last year’s Podium Festival in Leicester.
Established in 1982, Bradford-based SportsShoes.com offers customers in the UK, Europe and Scandinavia more than 15,000 products from 150 global running and outdoor brands.
SportsShoes Podium forms part of the company’s longstanding commitment to being the most physically present retailer in its space through events and activations.
Over the past 18 months alone, SportsShoes.com has been involved in the delivery of more than 100 activation events both in the UK and internationally.
These include Nike Test and Trial initiatives, Parkrun and RunThrough UK events, as well as Kendal Mountain Festival.
The retailer has also delivered Quid Games and a number of community run initiatives, including with Muslim Runners and Black Trail Runners.
Activations have taken place at nine marathons, including London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Boston, New York and Osaka. SportsShoes says this allowed it to reach seven million consumers physically last year.
SportsShoes Podium race coordinator, Mia France, said: “We regard ourselves as unrivalled in running, with Podium being an outstanding example of how we deliver upon that promise for both runners and brand partners.
“Podium has created an amazing community of runners and by expanding our race series with the first-ever event in Manchester, we are looking forward to welcoming many more people into it.”
SportsShoes Podium MCR’s women’s races will feature Almaz Nerukar, Holly Weedall, Esme Davies, Lizzie Wellsted, Holly Dixon and Jemima Elgood, with Elyas Ayyoub and Finley Proffitt among the men.
