Symprove, the UK’s Number 1 water-based live and active bacteria supplement, proudly announces the launch of a new convenient one-week pack of Symprove in hundreds of Sainsbury’s stores across the UK this summer, as part of its wider retail expansion across 2024 and into 2025.
The strategic partnership with Sainsbury’s supports Symprove’s commitment to making its unique, clinically tested, water-based probiotic accessible to a broader consumer base through selective retail expansion over the next 12 months.
Physical retail plays an important role for probiotic shoppers
Research shows 70% of shoppers like to physically interact with a product before purchasing it and 60% of the 35-54 age bracket in particular over-index for window-shopping and browsing in stores. Symprove’s strategic expansion into retail allows further opportunity to reach a wider consumer audience through physical interaction along with additional access for those pre-existing customers who may need a quick product top-up outside of their current subscription.
70% of customers take Symprove as a long-term solution to help manage conditions like IBS or to improve their overall gut health. However, customer insight has shown there is a growing market of more intermittent users who may choose to take Symprove when their guts are disrupted due to shorter term factors. For example: when taking antibiotics, during periods of high stress, when training for a sporting event, during or after a tummy bug or in preparation for travel.
Probiotics with antibiotics – the awareness is growing
There are around 30 million antibiotic prescriptions dispensed every year with one in three people in England being prescribed at least one course of antibiotics each year. Recent research conducted by Symprove amongst over 1,000 Health Care Professionals shows 75% of GPs and 80% of dietitians would recommend a probiotic alongside or after a course of antibiotics. Antibiotic treatments can reduce the diversity of gut bacteria, resulting in potential gastrointestinal symptoms or diarrhea. Studies suggest supplementing with probiotics may reduce or prevent the negative effects antibiotics can have on the gut microbiota. Symprove recognises the need for their readily available, trusted one-week solution to help the public during courses of antibiotics.
Will Bowler, CEO at Symprove, said: “The launch into Sainsbury’s represents another step forward for Symprove and in helping bring life changing gut health to more people. We are very proud to be partnering with Sainsbury’s to bring Symprove to more consumers across the UK.”
