Leading greetings card marketplace, thortful, announces that it has hit a monumental milestone, reaching £12 million in royalties for its community of creators.

thortful is known for its quirky, humorous, and thought-provoking cards, created by its unique community of 6,000 designers, illustrators, and graphic designers.

The greetings card marketplace started back in 2016, and has since gone from strength to strength, thanks to its community of talented creators, who design full-time or use it as a side hustle to express their creativity.

Whether working full-time or part-time, thortful shares that the distribution of royalties has helped some of its creators pay for rent, pay off their mortgage, or even pay for their wedding dress.

Angela Chick from Portsmouth has sold over 85,000 cards since joining thortful and is one of the marketplace’s original creators.

She says that sales vary from month to month but since joining, the royalties earned have paid for around a year’s worth of rent, adding, “during my busiest months, it was my main bread winner. I love the flexibility that working with thortful provides. I put my designs up for approval and the money ticks in. It’s really helped me out during the quieter times in my business, and It’s so important to me that I have time to get out and about to feel inspired.”

Becky Dinnage from Surrey, also known as Ludicrous Prints on thortful’s site, says her royalties pay for her £1,600 flights to visit her friend in Australia. She explains, “I am actually doing this trip with my husband. He paid for his flights too using the money he earned on thortful – his brand is The Blunt Badger. I have also been able to earn extra income that I have put towards my holidays every year.

Designing for thortful also gives me flexibility to work alongside my full-time job as well as my disabilities. I have fibromyalgia and am partially sighted.”, she adds.

A spokesperson from thortful adds, “These stories are what make thortful so special, and what drives us to keep pushing boundaries and supporting our creator’s creative journeys. We wouldn’t be able to succeed without their unique talents and we can’t thank the community enough.”
