As members of the Muslim community begin fasting during Ramadan, Uber and Uber Eats are expanding their ‘Sundown Spots’ Iftar diners across the UK, adding over 17 new locations for couriers and drivers, participating in Ramadan, supporting their hard work during the holy month.
The ‘Sundown Spots’ dinner series is entering its second year after being launched by Bafta winner and TV chef Big Zuu in 2022.
Running throughout Ramadan, the ‘Sundown Spots’ will offer Uber Eats’ community of couriers and Uber drivers an Iftar dine-in experience. Hosted at key community hubs across the UK including the famous i360 tower in Brighton, Glasgow’s Arta and New Craven Hall in Leeds. Each Sundown Spot will feature food from local restaurants that partner with the Uber Eats app.
The first ‘Sundown Spot’ opens its doors on March 27 in Manchester, and will be followed by special Iftar dinners for couriers including Birmingham, Leeds and London. This year Uber and Uber Eats are quadrupling the number of Sundown Spots events enabling more couriers and drivers to take part in the special holy dinners, which give thanks for the amazing work of Uber’s Muslim drivers and Uber Eats couriers.
Matthew Price, general manager of Uber Eats UK & Ireland, said: “Last year I had the pleasure of sitting down for Iftar with some of our couriers and drivers, hearing first-hand about what an important time of year it is and their experiences working during Ramadan. We’re very proud to be expanding our Sundown Spots dinners to even more people across the UK this year as a way to say thank you to our Muslim couriers and drivers”
Uber Eats will also be offering recipe bundles in-app from major supermarkets designed by Tik Tok influencers famed for their halal recipes. The meal bundles will be selected based on some of the most popular and delicious recipes that are staples of Iftar.
The ‘Sundown Spots’ dinner series launches alongside major new consumer-focused efforts including a new multi-channel marketing campaign from Uber Eats, which features dynamic digital OOH in prominent locations across major cities. The campaign highlights sunset timings across different locations and dates throughout the UK when users participating in Ramadan can sit down for Iftar.
Uber Eats is also offering 50% off all first-time grocery orders placed throughout Ramadan, with the code SUNDOWN50, for those hosting Iftar dinners at home.
