TPE toasts spring First Class menu with new pale ale and wine selection

TPETransPennine Express (TPE) has a First Class treat in store for customers with the launch of its brand-new spring/summer menu — and there’s something special on tap for beer lovers.

Customers travelling First Class on the TransPennine Kitchen: West Coast route can now raise a can of Lancaster Supernova, a brand-new zesty Pale Ale, created exclusively for TPE.

Crafted by the award-winning Lancaster Brewery, Lancaster Supernova is a refreshing Pale Ale bursting with spicy and tropical notes.

The eye-catching can has been designed by TPE’s own customer relations specialist, Lucy Richards, who is also a talented illustrator and has a masters degree in design.

Lucy has designed other products before including beer mats, but Lancaster Supernova marks the first can she’s illustrated.

The new seasonal menu was launched on Monday 14 April 2025 on TPE services running between Manchester and Liverpool to Edinburgh and Glasgow and brings a range of tempting new options to the table.

Customers can tuck into dishes such as Scottish smoked salmon penne pasta, chicken and leek pie, harissa vegetable stew, and for breakfast, there is a new addition of Belgian waffles.

The new menu also sees the introduction of a chorizo sausage roll, continuing TPE’s partnership with Pie Demand, based along the train operators’ route in Carlisle.

Since launching TransPennine Kitchen: West Coast last year, TPE has worked closely with Pie Demand, more than 7,495 caramelised onion sausage rolls sold across the route – a testament to their popularity with customers.

Wine lovers are also in for a treat, as TPE introduces a new First Class wine selection from The Copper Crew.

The carefully curated list includes a vibrant Italian Fiano white wine, a fresh and fruity Rosato rosé, a smooth and silky Negroamaro red, and a fizzy Bianco Spritz with notes of citrus and pear.

These wines will be served not only on West Coast services, but also on all First Class catered  trains, including TPE’s recently launched Coast to Coast: TransPennine Kitchen, which between Liverpool to Newcastle.

Andrew McClements, Customer Experience & Transformation Director at TransPennine Express, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be bringing even more locally sourced, high-quality food and drink onboard for our customers to enjoy.

“Whether it’s a can of Lancaster Supernova or a chorizo sausage roll, our new menu is all about delivering an experience that celebrates the communities we serve and makes every journey something to look forward to.”

Phil Simpson, Managing Director at Lancaster Brewery said: “TPE’s drive to elevate every part of the journey mirrors our approach at Lancaster Brewery.

“Our beer is handcrafted by master brewers with over 20 years of experience, using our own yeast, freshly milled malt, whole hops and water drawn from our well.

“Creating this unique beer as a collaboration, we’re proud to partner with TPE and share our small but passionate brewery with a wider audience.”

Laura Twigg, Co-Owner of Pie Demand said:  “Pie Demand are thrilled to feature on the West Cost Kitchen spring/summer menu, and we hope customers travelling with TransPennine Express love our chorizo sausage rolls.
