WalkersWalker’s Shortbread, the family-run Scottish shortbread manufacturer with over 128 years of baking heritage, is unveiling a significant innovation for the global retail channel with the launch of Wee Chunkies. This new range of indulgent, bite-sized treats represents an exciting evolution for the brand, introducing a premium, shareable format designed to meet the evolving tastes of the modern traveller.

The brand is partnering with WHSmith to debut the range, a move that includes the launch of an exclusive Chocolate and Orange flavour, alongside a classic Triple Chocolate variety.

Wee Chunkies offer an entirely new way to enjoy Walker’s world-famous quality. The signature all-butter shortbread acts as a base for a generous balance of chunky inclusions packed into every single bite-sized piece. Packaged in an eye-catching and resealable share-sized tub that ensures strong shelf standout, they product also features a unique heatable element. They are crafted to be warmed gently at home, releasing the aroma and warmth of freshly baked shortbread, as though they’ve just emerged from Walker’s’ ovens in the Scottish Highlands.

The launch is designed to meet the needs of the travelling consumer by offering a premium, convenient, and shareable treat suitable for both on-the-go consumption and gifting. This continues the brand’s focus on engaging a wide range of customers, with research showing the product’s format and packaging have strong appeal with younger shoppers (73% of 18–34-year-olds found the design appealing)(1).

The travel retail range at WHSmith will feature two varieties. The exclusive Chocolate and Orange offers notes of zesty orange with rich Belgian chocolate, while the range also includes Triple Chocolate, which features a blend of creamy milk and dark chocolate.

Bryony Walker, Commercial Director at Walker’s Shortbread, said: “Walker’s has long offered travellers a taste of Scotland to enjoy on their journey or to take home and we are thrilled to continue that legacy with Wee Chunkies. We’ve used our 128-year-old family recipe as the base for this perfect bite-size treat, adding a generous balance of indulgent additions like chocolate and zesty orange.

“The distinctive, resealable tub makes them ideal for sharing on the go or gifting to loved ones, offering the perfect comforting treat to bring home and gently warm for a freshly baked experience. It is an exciting innovation, and we are delighted to offer WHSmith shoppers something truly unique with the exclusive Chocolate and Orange flavour.”

Both varieties are now available in WHSmith travel stores, with an RRP of £6.00 (125g).
