Asda boosts support for Armed Forces community with enhanced leave and new policies

Asda has reinforced its commitment to the Armed Forces community with a series of policy enhancements designed to better support colleagues who serve, have served, or contribute through cadet organisations.

Announced ahead of Armed Forces Day (27th June), the retailer will be increasing its provision for reservists, introducing 10 days of paid leave plus a further five days of unpaid leave annually. The move is designed to give colleagues greater flexibility to balance military commitments with their roles in-store and across the business.

The changes, which will come into effect in the coming weeks, also include enhanced support for cadet force adult volunteers. Asda will introduce an additional five days of volunteer leave for colleagues involved in youth development programmes.

In a further move, Asda will introduce a voluntary system enabling colleagues to share their ex-military status, allowing the retailer to better understand its Armed Forces community and shape future support.

Asda has proudly partnered with the Armed Forces Covenant since 2014 and holds a Silver Award under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, recognising its ongoing support for military personnel, reservists, veterans and their families.

James Goodman, chief people officer at Asda, said, “Colleagues from the Armed Forces community bring a wealth of valuable skills, experience and leadership that make a real difference across our business. We’re proud to stand behind those who serve or have served, and these enhanced policies are about making sure we better support members of the Armed Forces community”.
