Spar North of England and Yorkshire TeaSpar North of England customers who take tea over coffee can rejoice through a new deal with James Hall & Co. Ltd and Yorkshire Tea.

Yorkshire Tea is now available at 125 SPAR stores which have a Cheeky Coffee machine installed offering up a high-quality brew that matches that of the coffee.

Current and prospective SPAR retailers heard the benefits of having a coffee and hot drink offer within their stores at James Hall & Co. Ltd’s Spar Inspire retailer event.

The development comes as sales of Cheeky Coffee continue to rise, now sitting at 1.8 million cups annually, as the rollout of machines accelerates in SPAR stores across Northern England.

This includes an expansion of Cheeky Coffee to all SPAR stores within James Hall & Co. Ltd’s G&E Murgatroyd company stores division by the end of this year, and a rapidly increasing number of SPAR independent retailers who are adopting the brand.

Peter Dodding, sales director at James Hall & Co. Ltd and Chairman of the Spar Northern Guild, said: “It is wonderful to secure a deal and now be able to provide such an iconic brand as Yorkshire Tea alongside our Cheeky Coffee offer at Spar stores. I think it is testament to the growth of the Cheeky Coffee brand over the last couple of years and its position in the market now that we were able to secure this tie up.

“From Carlisle to Connah’s Quay and Newcastle to Nafferton, we know Spar customers are seeking out Cheeky Coffee for its great taste and value. The growth is only going to continue in the next 12 months and beyond as many more Spar retailers begin to offer it to customers.

“SPAR retailers now have a superb tea alternative that comes with a legion of followers to complement the coffee offer and support their sales drive in this key category area.”

Cliff Isherwood, operations manager at Spar independent retailer Follen Stores, is one of many retailers to adopt the Cheeky Coffee brand. said: “We have had Cheeky Coffee at Claughton service station for around 12 months now and the success of it has led us to introduce it at our other two stores at Bolton-le-Sands and Forton.

“I would highly recommend Cheeky Coffee to other retailers as it gives flexibility to run various promotions that our last brand did not allow. Sales have gone up by 25% on our previous coffee provider with far superior margins and we are delighted with the results since our switch.”

Phil Bridge, Spar independent retailer and member of the Spar Northern Guild, added Cheeky Coffee to his store in Blackburn. He said: “With my previous coffee provider I was making between £300 and £400 a week. There was a presentation at a Guild meeting on Cheeky Coffee, and I decided to make the switch and give it a go. We put Cheeky Coffee in last July and the sales have doubled.

“It has been a fantastic development with the percentage of margin that we are making now and my return on investment from installing the machine will be around 10 months.”

James Hall & Co. Ltd is a fifth-generation family business which serves a network of independent SPAR retailers and company-owned SPAR stores across Northern England six days a week from its base at Bowland View in Preston.
