Bulk accelerates growth and slashes carrier costs with Scurri’s delivery management platform

BulkBulk, one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports nutrition and activewear brands, has achieved significant operational efficiencies and cost savings by partnering with Scurri, the next-generation delivery management platform. The partnership has enabled Bulk to diversify its carrier network, optimise delivery lead times and scale operations across Europe, and all while improving customer experience and driving a 66% increase in orders processed through Scurri.

Bulk, known for its premium supplements, activewear and health foods, operates in a highly competitive European market where quick delivery is crucial to customer satisfaction. As Bulk expanded rapidly across Europe, the company sought a solution that would provide greater flexibility, control and agility over its delivery operations.

Bulk has derived a range of important benefits by switching to Scurri. By integrating with a wide range of carriers via Scurri’s platform, Bulk has saved more than £1m+ across its European delivery network. With access to over 70 carriers and more than 1,500 services, Bulk can now easily switch providers, optimise rates and enhance its tender negotiations. This flexibility has also helped Bulk mitigate risks, particularly during peak periods.

“If you’re locked in to a carrier utilising their API, carriers know it’s difficult for you to switch. But if you’ve got carrier management software like Scurri Connect which enables you to switch quickly, it adds impetus to those tender discussions. We’ve used that to great effect and have achieved six-figure savings across our EU delivery network,” explained John Beazley, Logistics Director at Bulk.

By diversifying its carrier network, Bulk has also reduced delivery lead times by up to 24 hours in the EU. Previously reliant on DHL for all shipments, Bulk now uses a mix of carriers, including DHL Packet, DHL Connect, Evri (France), UPS (Ireland), PostNord (Sweden & Denmark), to cut costs and offer faster delivery options. This has proven vital, particularly for customers ordering time-sensitive products such as supplements and fitness gear.

Bulk leverages Scurri’s intuitive Rules Engine to configure and adjust its shipping logic without needing technical support from carriers. This has been a game-changer for Bulk, especially when processing over two million orders annually. The ability to independently adjust complex shipping rules has enabled Bulk to scale operations efficiently during peak times. Beazley explained, “Thanks to Scurri’s Rules Engine, we can make changes quickly. Doing this directly with carriers would involve dev time and carrier-specific technical expertise which isn’t always available in-house. This intuitive system allows the logistics team to be autonomous with the change agenda.”

The reliability of Scurri’s platform has been instrumental in Bulk’s ability to scale orders by 66% over a three-year period. Scurri’s fast and accurate label generation, combined with its 99.995% uptime, has provided Bulk with the confidence to automate processes and meet growing demand during high-volume events including Black Friday.

Bulk outsourced fulfilment to a third-party logistics provider (3PL) in the UK, but thanks to Scurri’s seamless integration capabilities, it retained control over its carrier relationships. By generating its own labels and keeping direct control of commercial terms, Bulk ensured that 3PL fees didn’t eat into its margins.

Bulk credits much of its success with Scurri to the expert technical and account management support provided. “Scurri’s account management is second to none – probably the best in our operational tech stack. It’s great to be able to reach our Account Manager quickly, and have the ability to speak directly to the technical team if needed. Feedback from the Scurri team has always been timely, accurate, well-structured and thorough – we feel very supported by them.”

With Scurri’s platform, Bulk has positioned itself for continued success, with the ability to scale delivery operations while maintaining flexibility, cost control and superior service quality for its customers.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Bulk as they continue their impressive growth across Europe,” said Rory O’Connor, Founder & CEO of Scurri. “The team at Bulk has demonstrated a clear commitment to operational excellence, and we’re excited to support their expansion with our flexible, scalable delivery management platform. It’s rewarding to see how our technology has played a key role in driving cost efficiencies, reducing delivery times and enhancing their customer experience. We look forward to continuing our partnership and helping Bulk reach even greater heights in the years ahead.”
