Eco-friendly cleaning brand Seep is now available in 551 Tesco stores, making Tesco the first national supermarket to stock a dedicated range of eco cleaning tools, setting a new standard for sustainability in retail.
This significant listing is part of Tesco’s 2024 Accelerator Programme which saw Seep, and 15 other small brands, listed as part of the retailer’s commitment to champion exciting and diverse new brands.
Seep offers a range of eco friendly, compostable and recyclable cleaning tools and is aiming to prevent 1bn plastic cleaning products such as microfibre cloths and plastic sponges from ending up in landfill by 2030 and now has further support from Tesco.
Tesco has listed three of Seep’s bestsellers; single sponge scourer, bamboo cloth and medium sized Fairtrade latex rubber gloves.
Seep was founded in lockdown by Laura Harnett as she was frustrated at the lack of eco friendly cleaning tools to go with the wide range of cleaning sprays and detergents readily available.
She has developed a range of products that work as well or better than their plastic counterparts. The sponge scourer for example will last three to four months longer than its typical yellow and green plastic counterpart. The sponge is made from wood pulp and loofah and the texture means that less detergent is needed, another way to save the planet and the pennies. The sponge and bamboo cloths are home compostable and the FSC certified rubber gloves are certified biodegradable.
The gloves come in a stylish turquoise colour and are cotton flocked lined for extra comfort. They have a textured finger tip for better grip so will make washing up or cleaning feel fantastic on the hands.
Laura said: “Tesco’s leadership in sustainability is a game changer. By becoming the first national retailer to stock an eco cleaning tool range, they’re helping us accelerate our mission and educate more consumers about reducing plastic waste in their homes.”
Seep continues to drive change in the cleaning industry, offering high-performance, sustainable alternatives that benefit both the planet and consumers.”
This listing is the third in a trio of national retailers who have added Seep to their shelves this year. Tesco follows Ocado and Robert Dyas listing a range of Seep’s eco cleaning products. This is in addition to Lakeland and Oxfam nationally, Booths and Whole Foods market stores regionally as well as being available via Seep’s website and Amazon and a variety of independent eco friendly online retailers and independent stores.
The other 15 brands on the Accelerator Programme include 10 diverse or women founded and owned brands. Bold Bean Co, Fearne & Rosie, Piccolo and The Gut Stuff were also founded by women. Aagrah, Better Nature Tempeh, Jake & Nayn’s, Superfoodio and Wha Gwan are all diverse-owned brands.
