From groceries to guarantees: the shift toward everyday financial shopping

Buying groceries is something people do with little thought. Sure, they might make a list and check it off as they wander around the supermarket, but that’s something most people can do easily.

In recent years, financial shopping has become very similar to grocery shopping. Nowadays, people can make quicker financial decisions, whether that’s getting a personal loan, securing a mortgage, or buying life insurance.

Online financial decisions = convenience

One of the biggest reasons people can now make everyday financial decisions with ease is the ability to do so online. Digital financial decisions mean endless convenience. Individuals do not even need to leave their homes to secure a deal.

One example of making a more convenient financial decision online is comparing life insurance plans. Using a service like Reassured.co.uk can put people in touch with insurance brokers who can provide information and quotes for life insurance. It has made getting life insurance a much smoother journey, one that mimics buying groceries! However, the benefit extends far beyond having something nice in for dinner, as it’s a plan that secures dependents’ finances.

The ability to compare quickly

Individuals often do not hesitate much when buying groceries; they may stop for a moment when deciding whether to purchase mature or extra mature cheese, but that doesn’t take long or much effort. In the past, people would spend much more time choosing a financial company or a financial plan. Now, it looks a lot more like grocery shopping, and that’s all because it’s become easier than ever to compare financial decisions quickly. For example, a life insurance broker can compare quotes nearly instantly to help people make the right choice.

Flexible payment plans

Another way financial shopping has become more convenient is with the option of flexible payment plans. People are now taking out more loans because they know they can easily afford things that way.

One example is Klarna, a fintech company that lets people buy now and pay later. People can use Klarna for a variety of online purchases, including buying clothes online. They will then pay the first instalment, followed by two or three further instalments over several weeks. Usually, the item is paid for within thirty days with no interest. So, people can buy things they want or need before they have the money for it (for example, if payday is next week).

Is everyday financial shopping a good thing?

For many people – yes. It is a busy and fast-moving world, so being able to make quicker financial decisions suits most people. It also means not hesitating too much; instead, making financial choices without overthinking, which can lead to significant gains.

Of course, it doesn’t suit everyone. For example, some older people prefer to stick to the traditional methods of securing a loan or getting a mortgage. In these cases, there are still physical places available (such as banks) where you can talk to experts in real life.
