Gamstop Online, the national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling, has reported a 40% year on year increase in 16–24-year-olds registering with the service in the second six months of 2025.
Younger consumers represented nearly a third (29%) of new registrations, underlining a continued shift towards early, possibly preventative use of self-exclusion tools.
The under-25 age group is the only one where a six-month exclusion is the most popular, with 38% choosing that timeframe. However, among all registrations, 47% chose a five-year exclusion, making it the most popular overall.
Gamstop Online introduced a new ‘5 years with auto-renewal’ exclusion in December 2024 to provide the equivalent of a lifetime block for those who want it. Since its introduction, take-up of the auto-renewal option has increased steadily and in December 2025, for the first time, the auto‑renewal option was selected by over 50% of consumers choosing a minimum five-year exclusion. This reflects the growing demand for extended self-exclusion.
This data is published alongside the announcement of a new identity for The Multi Operator Self-Exclusion Scheme for Betting Shops (MOSES) which will now operate as Gamstop Betting Shops, connecting it more closely with online self-exclusion.
Gamstop Online and Gamstop Betting Shops are both operated by The Gamstop Group, which was asked to take over the MOSES scheme in 2023.
The rebrand will integrate the two services more closely and raise awareness of the betting shops self-exclusion scheme, which allows consumers to bar themselves from multiple named premises around their home and place of work.
While registration for Gamstop Betting Shops has previously only been available via telephone, consumers will soon be able to register online aligning it more closely with Gamstop Online.
The number of people currently excluded across the UK with Gamstop Online was just over 562,000 at the end of 2025. Total registrations for the second half of 2025 were 58,675, averaging 319 per day.
Self-exclusion under Gamstop Betting Shops lasts for a maximum 18 months, which results in greater fluctuation in numbers. More than 9,000 people are currently registered, covering around 6,000 shops and more than 60 operators.
Fiona Palmer, CEO of The Gamstop Group, said: “Our brand refresh reflects the evolution of Gamstop and will deliver clarity, consistency and accessibility while preserving the trust and integrity built over the last eight years since we launched.
The continued year-on-year growth in registrations highlights the ongoing and increasing need for effective self-exclusion tools. The rise in take-up of our auto-renewal option, in particular, shows that many consumers are seeking longer-term support and recognise the value of self-exclusion in helping them manage their gambling.”
