Junction 32, Yorkshire’s leading outlet shopping destination, celebrated a major milestone last month – 25 successful years providing shoppers with incredible deals, exclusive brands, and a vibrant retail experience. Since opening in 1999, Junction 32 has evolved into a popular retail destination, attracting visitors from across the region and beyond.
To mark its silver anniversary, Junction 32 hosted an exciting and successful celebratory event on 7th and 8th September, packed with exclusive offers, on-site festivities, and a weekend full of celebrations. The event resulted in a remarkable 17% increase in footfall, while sales saw an exceptional 33% uplift compared to same week last year. The success of this weekend not only reflects the popularity of the event but also the centre’s loyal community that came to support.
Throughout the weekend, visitors enjoyed a variety of activities and experiences including roaming activations and the chance to win £50 gift vouchers. This drew in 150 shoppers and reinforced the strong relationship between the centre’s retailers and their customers.
Additional festivity over the weekend included special visits from a host of local community groups, including a performance by the Forward Thinking Choir and The Garden Party Band, live DJ sets, charity visits from Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Prince of Wales Hospice, as well as a visit by the Mayor of Wakefield.
Over the past 25 years, Junction 32 has undergone significant transformations, including a major refurbishment in 2006 when it was renamed Junction 32, originally named Freeport Castleford. The centre now boasts over 70 high street and designer brands, offering shoppers up to 70% off on a wide range of products, from fashion to home goods.
Recent successes from the first half of 2024 include an impressive 18.4% rise in footfall and a 2.6% increase in turnover compared to the same period last year. This growth has been achieved across the board and has been driven by our existing brands as well as through new store openings including Saltrock, Oxen Sports, Castore, and Lucy & Yak, as well as key retailers like Greggs, Pavers, and Sports Direct who have expanded their offerings to enhance the shopping experience.
Rachel Scott, head of leasing at Global Mutual, said: “Junction 32’s 25th anniversary is a testament to the centre’s success over the last quarter of a century. It’s ability to adapt and thrive in a constantly changing retail landscape has led to its continued growth over the years and we’re looking forward to seeing the centre continue on its current successful trajectory.”
As Junction 32 celebrates its 25th year, it continues to look ahead, with further store openings and community-driven initiatives planned for the coming months.
