Klarna launches on Adyen in-store terminals across Europe, North America and Australia

Klarna, the AI-powered global payments network and shopping assistant, will launch its flexible payment methods on Adyen’s physical payment terminals across Europe, North America and Australia. Adyen, the financial technology platform of choice for leading businesses, is the first global PSP to launch Klarna simultaneously on all physical payment terminals worldwide.

The move is a significant milestone for Klarna, which has been steadily growing its presence in physical stores in recent years, in addition to its strong online presence. The launch builds on Klarna and Adyen’s long-standing partnership simplifying payments and improving the customer experience for thousands of online retailers worldwide. After this pilot phase the new offering should be available for a wider roll out during October.

“We want consumers to be able to pay with Klarna at any checkout, anywhere,” says David Sykes, chief commercial officer at Klarna. “Our strong partnership with Adyen gives a massive boost to our ambition to bring flexible payments to the high street in a new way.”

Adyen is one of the leaders in the in-person payments solutions industry with over 450,000 devices ranging from countertop devices to mobile terminals.

“We’re excited to work together on this pilot, offering shoppers a new, flexible way to pay that will redefine the in-store experience,” says Alexa von Bismarck, president EMEA at Adyen. “This launch highlights the strength of our collaboration with Klarna as we bring their Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) payment method to in-store terminals for the first time. We see that consumers care deeply about the in-store touch point and value brands which can allow them to pay how they want – ultimately that is what this collaboration with Klarna is all about.”

Adyen is launching Klarna’s Dynamic QR solution. To make a payment, the customer scans a QR code displayed on the Adyen terminal and completes the transaction on their mobile device. The customer can pay using one of Klarna’s interest-free BNPL payment methods and can keep track of the purchase in their Klarna app, alongside all their other Klarna purchases.
