Co-op’s Swarcliffe Avenue store is welcoming the community back into their local store after re-opening today (Friday, 11 July) following a four-week programme of works and improvements.

The store – which supports 17 local jobs – has been ‘totally transformed’ inside and out and includes an enhanced focus on fresh, healthy and chilled produce, alongside a bakery, hot food and Costa Coffee Express serving hot and cold drinks. This sits alongside the store’s focus on food-to-go and meal deals; Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers; ready meals, award winning beers and wines and, every day essentials.

Swarcliffe Avenue’s Co-op is a hub for Co-op’s leading quick commerce operation, orders are picked fresh in local Co-op stores and delivered quickly and conveniently in the community. Online orders are available via Just Eat, Deliveroo, Just Eat and Co-op’s own online shop – shop.coop.co.uk – as well as autonomous robot deliveries via Starship Technologies.

The added convenience of out-of-home collection of parcels is also available at the store through Amazon and DPD.

New refrigeration will not only enhance the fresh, chilled and frozen range, but also support Co-op’s work to further cut its carbon footprint. Soft plastic recycling is also available, enabling shoppers to return harder to recycle materials such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.

Member price savings create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.

Iain Walker, Co-op’s store manager, said: “The whole team is delighted to invest in our store, and we are really enjoying welcoming the community back into their Co-op – the store has been totally transformed with a fresh new look inside and out. We aim to be a community hub with added services including the online home delivery of groceries, Costa Coffee Express, payment services via PayPoint and parcel collections, and we pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice and value which can be enjoyed by everyone. We’re here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support the community.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back more than 180 years. Co-op exists to create value for its membership and communities, and its 6.5m members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation.
