Magpies’ supporters pay the most to stay cosy on matchdays, according to new research.
The analysis by BonusCodeBets.co.uk looked at the total prices of woolly hats, scarves, and hot chocolates sold by Premier League clubs, revealing staying warm at St James’ Park comes with a hefty price tag of £44 combined.
The chilling cost for winter essentials makes them the most expensive club in the Premier League for matchday warmth.
The breakdown is enough to leave fans shivering by charging £26 for a beanie, £14 for a scarf, and don’t go to Newcastle if you want to keep your hands warm, with a hot chocolate costing £4.
Compared to Nottingham Forest, where the same cosy combo costs just £27.30, providing their fans a much warmer deal. At the City ground, the same bundle costs nearly £20 less – enough to make any proud member of the Toon Army feel the winter bite.
Joining Forest in the bottom pile is Wolverhampton Wanderers (£27.50) and Manchester City – more familiar with topping the league than scraping the bottom – and will be glad to see themselves in the bottom three of this particular table.
Their winter essentials bundle costs a modest £29.50, proving that even champions can offer a good deal when it comes to staying warm.
Top of the costs table for charging fans through the goalposts to stay warm:
Rank | Team | Total Cost of keeping warm |
1st | Newcastle United | £44 |
2nd | Aston Villa | £43.25 |
3rd | Manchester United | £42.20 |
4th | Arsenal | £37.95 |
5th | Tottenham Hotspur | £37.50 |
The data also uncovered a striking regional pricing divide, with Northern clubs charging a total of £177.10, with Manchester United (£42.20) joining Newcastle at the higher end of the Northern clubs’ pricing. Clubs in the midlands, including Aston Villa, are charging their loyal faithful significantly less at £132.55.
Meanwhile, Southern clubs price fans out of the warm-up a significant £68.95 more than those both in the Midlands and up North (£378.60).
Spare a thought for fans of Arsenal (£37.95), Tottenham Hotspur (£37.50) and Chelsea (£36.00), who face the steepest matchday bills in the Southern region. Surprisingly, not all the ‘Big Six’ are pricey, with Liverpool (£31.50) joining City at the lower end of the scale, offering fans a much warmer financial deal despite their dominant presence on the pitch.
A spokesperson for BonusCodeBets.co.uk said “Newcastle fans aren’t just battling the Tyneside chill – £44 for a hat, scarf, and hot chocolate is enough to leave even the toughest Geordie shivering from the price, not just the cold!
“Meanwhile, Forest fans don’t need to splash the cash to stay warm on the terrasses, and for once the Blue side of Manchester will be happy to find themselves in the bottom three – at least when it comes to winter warm-up costs!”
