Spar International is bringing a new range of wines to retailers, leveraging its global sourcing network and a newly opened bonded warehouse based in the Netherlands.
The Spar retail network has a long history of collaboration throughout its more than 90-year legacy. The Spar brand has a strong presence in countries known for producing some of the world’s most renowned wines, including South Africa and Italy.
Using its extensive international network operating in 48 countries, the Spar brand provides market access and a growth platform for selected products sourced with the buying expertise of Spar country organisations. Today, this global buying alliance delivers carefully selected wines from prestigious vineyards to SPAR customers in other countries.
“A recently opened bonded warehouse in the Netherlands, managed by Spar International, will improve access to a growing wine selection. These wines are specially sourced using our international buying network to support Spar country organisations,” said Michel Hartong, international commercial manager at Spar International.
With access to a range of renowned vineyards through its international buying network, SPAR International is proud to work with Olive Brook, based in South Africa’s Western Cape, to bring several great wines to SPAR branded stores in other markets. Selected wines include a Sauvignon Blanc, which is best enjoyed chilled and pairs with a wide variety of foods, as well as popular Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines that complement many meals, further enriching the selection available for Spar shoppers.
Italy is another country with an exceptional wine heritage, where the Spar brand has been operating since 1959. In Italy, wine is deeply rooted in the culinary tradition, with each region producing distinct varieties.
Through DESPAR Italia, we are delighted to offer customers a Chianti sourced from a vineyard in Tuscany, one of Europe’s most iconic sources of this truly delicious wine.
These specially selected wines will be introduced to customers through in-store messaging and digital media advertising, highlighting their country of origin and inspiring customers to enjoy great wine with friends and family. SPAR country organisations also receive supporting materials to build awareness among their buying and retail teams, in addition to consumer advertising, illustrating the advantages of collaborative buying and marketing of private label ranges.
The successful introduction of Olive Brook wines to Spar stores in Europe and Asia has inspired further expansion. Spar Netherlands recently listed several wines of South African origin, increasing its assortment for valued shoppers. The next market to tap into Spar’s international network will also add an Italian Chianti to their range.
Spar International plans to continue growing its wine offering across Spar country organisations. The newly opened bonded warehouse in the Netherlands will play a key role in making this wider wine selection more accessible through collaboration across its international buying network.
