Iceland Foods celebrated a ‘double win’ at the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aqua Stewardship Council (ASC) annual awards earlier this month, for MSC UK Marketing Campaign of the Year, in conjunction with Birds Eye, and MSC UK Silver Supermarket of the Year.
The awards took place in Plymouth on the 16th October and saw leaders of the sustainable seafood and aquaculture sectors gather to celebrate the commitment to sustainable seafood and responsible sourcing across retail, hospitality, and within fisheries.
The marketing campaign victory followed a successful consumer brand initiative across multiple media platforms and social channels. Research commissioned for the campaign settled the “de-bait” of the nation’s preferred way to enjoy the classic fish finger sandwich, with MSC prominently mentioned in national press and celebrated by popular foodie influencers through posts and stories.
Customers were also offered ‘big sea savings’ for choosing MSC products from both the Birds Eye and Iceland ranges, promoted through branded in-store marketing and social media activity. The campaign highlighted the importance of buying sustainably sourced seafood, so consumers can continue to enjoy seafood for generations to come.
Adam Smith, Iceland category trading manager, said: “We’re thrilled to have been recognised alongside Birds Eye for the MSC UK Marketing Campaign of the Year. Picking up two awards, including the silver MSC UK Supermarket of the Year award, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to sourcing and selling affordable, sustainably sourced seafood.
“This campaign allowed us to engage with our customers about the importance of making responsible choices for the future of our oceans. We’re excited to continue this conversation and inspire more people to choose certified sustainable seafood.”
Loren Hiller, Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) commercial manager UK & Ireland, said: “Iceland’s recognition as the silver winner of MSC UK Supermarket of the Year and joint winner of the MSC UK Marketing Campaign of the Year is a testament to their ongoing leadership in promoting sustainable seafood.
“The success of the campaign, in partnership with Birds Eye, not only highlighted the importance of sustainable sourcing but also inspired customers to make choices that help safeguard our oceans for future generations. We look forward to continuing our work together and supporting Iceland as they increase their range of MSC labelled products.”
Iceland will continue to partner with MSC and ASC to build its offerings for consumers and ensure it is sourcing responsibly. You can read more about its commitments to sustainable fish here: Sustainable fish – Iceland – Doing it Right
