Atlante celebrates Italian food culture and 2025 harvest with new documentary

Atlante hosted a private screening at the Italian Embassy in London last week to celebrate Italian food culture and the 2025 harvest, which saw strong production across several key Italian staples including wine, olive oil and durum wheat.

The evening brought together producers, industry partners and food sector professionals to reflect on the people, landscapes and expertise behind some of Italy’s most iconic foods.

The event also marked the private premiere of Atlante’s first documentary film, The Year of Abundance, presented by botanist and science communicator James Wong, and directed by Natasha Olive.

The story behind the event

Global food systems are currently operating in a period of heightened volatility, shaped by climate pressures, geopolitical instability and supply chain disruptions.

Recent years have seen shortages across multiple agricultural sectors.

Against this backdrop, 2025 stood out as a rare year of abundance for several key Italian crops, particularly wine, olive oil and durum wheat.

Atlante chose to mark this moment not only as positive news for the sector, but as an opportunity to highlight the work that goes on behind the scenes of the food products consumers often take for granted.

Atlante’s role

Atlante is a global food sourcing, distribution and development company, working closely with producers across Italy and beyond to bring their products to international markets.

Through its long-standing partnerships with producers across Italy, the company has a unique vantage point on both the challenges and opportunities shaping today’s food system.

The event reflected Atlante’s role not only as a food sourcing and distribution partner, but also as a connector across the industry, bringing together producers, retailers and food experts around shared challenges and opportunities.

The documentary: the year of abundance

To mark the exceptional 2025 harvest, Atlante produced its first documentary film, The Year of Abundance, presented by James Wong, and directed by Natasha Olive.

Travelling across Italy, Wong explores the story of the harvest from the ground up, visiting olive groves, vineyards and wheat mills while meeting the people whose work sustains some of Italy’s most recognisable foods.

The film highlights:

  • The diversity of Italy’s landscapes and microclimates
  • The knowledge and craftsmanship behind traditional production
  • The innovation helping producers adapt to changing environmental and market conditions

At its heart, the documentary is a celebration of Italian food culture – its provenance, quality, heritage and traditions – alongside the innovation that continues to shape its future.

Industry partnerships

The film and the evening also highlight Atlante’s long-standing partnerships with producers across Italy.

Featured collaborators include:

Montalbano – olive oil producers, working with olive growers across Italy Alma Wines – representing wines from diverse Italian regions

Casillo Group – one of Europe’s leading milling groups

These partnerships reflect the collaboration and shared expertise that underpin resilient food supply chains.

Experiencing Italian food culture

Guests were also able to experience the diversity of Italian food culture first-hand through tastings of products featured in the film, including regional wines, olive oils and innovative wheat products.

Together they reflect the unique combination of landscape, tradition, craftsmanship and innovation that defines Italian food.
