Froot Pops launches new Sours Range

Froot PopsThis November, Froot Pops, the UK’s leading frozen fruit snacking brand, is expanding its product portfolio with the launch of Sours. The new range of confectionery inspired frozen fruit snacks will be rolling out with Ocado from 4th November. Launching in two flavours, Zingy Blueberry and Hot Mango (RRP:£6 / 220g bag), Sours marks the brand’s latest move to broaden its offering beyond chocolate-coated frozen fruit and bring new flavour experiences to the freezer aisle. Both SKUs will also be available to independent retailers via wholesalers including CLF, OnTheRocks, Nice London and Woodford Dairies.

Drawing inspiration from the bold, punchy flavours traditionally associated with confectionery, Froot Pops Sours combine real frozen fruit with zingy, flavour-packed coatings, delivering a playful new twist on frozen snacking. Made with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, the range offers consumers an exciting alternative to traditional frozen treats.

Making its market debut with Ocado, Hot Mango Sours combines the tropical sweetness of real mango with a tangy sour chilli coating, delivering a distinctive combination of sweet, sour and heat. Zingy Blueberry features whole blueberries, picked at peak freshness and sourced from trusted farms, coated in a naturally zingy blend of sour lemon and dragon fruit.

The launch follows an encouraging start for Blueberry Sours which launched into Tesco Ireland in September, where the product achieved one of the highest rates of sale in the frozen category and exceeded initial demand expectations. The range extension aims to answer growing consumer appetite for sour flavour profiles, with sour-flavoured fruit sweets reportedly growing 4.5 times faster than the total sweets market, now accounting for 12% of the market and £171m in sales.

Froot Pops founder Ana Martins said: “We see a huge opportunity to bring the bold, exciting flavour experiences traditionally associated with confectionery into frozen snacking. With Sours, we’re taking everything consumers love about sweet-and-sour treats and giving it a fresh, fruity twist. While we’ve built our reputation on chocolate-coated frozen fruit, our ambition has always been bigger than that. We want to demonstrate just how much potential there is for innovation within frozen snacking, introducing new flavours, textures and experiences that give consumers more reasons to reach for the freezer and retailers more opportunities to engage shoppers.

The response to Blueberry Sours in Tesco Ireland has been incredibly encouraging, with the product selling out in just three days. It’s a strong indication of the appetite for more adventurous flavours in frozen and gives us a fantastic foundation for introducing the range to UK shoppers, alongside our brand-new Hot Mango Sours.”

The launch comes as consumer interest in frozen continues to grow. Ocado Retail recently reported an 18% year-on-year increase in frozen product sales, with frozen fruit sales rising 23% over the same period. Meanwhile, 47% of UK adults say they have increased their frozen purchases in the past year. Froot Pops is looking to build on this momentum, extending its proposition beyond chocolate-coated fruit and reinforcing its ambition to make frozen snacking a more exciting and relevant choice for everyday occasions.
