Howarth Timber & Building Supplies has strengthened its UK branch network with the acquisition of the former Arnold Laver site in Sunderland.
The move represents a continued investment in regional growth for the independent builders’ merchant, enhancing its presence in the North East and reinforcing its strategy of developing well-located branches that serve local trade communities.
The Sunderland site has operated as a specialist timber merchant and is recognised by customers across the area. Its addition to the Howarth Timber network ensures continuity of timber expertise while creating opportunities to broaden the product mix and support a wider range of building projects.
The transition process is now underway, with a focus on maintaining service levels for existing customers while integrating the branch into Howarth Timber’s systems and supply chain.
Commenting on the acquisition, Nick Howarth, managing director at Howarth Timber, said: “We have purchased the Arnold Laver Sunderland branch which will become our 37th branch, Howarth Timber & Building Supplies Sunderland. The branch will join our Eastern Region; John McGhie, an Eastern Region Deputy Regional Manager will take the lead in transitioning it across to become one of our branches.
The Arnold Laver Sunderland branch was a timber merchant. We intend to keep it focussed on stocking and selling timber products but also adding insulation and plasterboards. The branch will also have a large First Fix Second Fix (FFSF) operation.”
