With 115 days to go until Christmas, John Lewis has officially launched its online Christmas Shop on johnlewis.com. Customers are preparing for the festive season earlier than ever, with searches for Christmas gifts and decorations soaring throughout the hot summer months.
This year, the first spike in searches for Christmas items on johnlewis.com was seen as early as August 3rd, with searches for ‘Christmas Decorations’ up 128% in August compared to the same time last year. Searches for ‘Christmas Wreath’ have increased by 367% in the same time period, suggesting that customers are eager to decorate their doors earlier than ever.
Lisa Cherry, head of Christmas at John Lewis (and Mrs Christmas to us), says: “The countdown is officially on! We couldn’t be more excited to launch our Online Christmas Shop, and bring the festive magic directly to our customers.
“This year is all about easy ways to inject an extra bit of joy: oversized bows, playful baubles like our Jam Heart Biscuits, and pre-lit trees are all going to be big on the wish list.
“To meet customer demand, we have invested in our biggest-ever buy of Christmas decorations, gifts and experiences. We’ve over 400 baubles available, but my top picks are the cute baubles with faces – plus the new animal decorations inspired by a certain Britpop duo! To meet customer demand, we have invested in our biggest-ever buy of Christmas decorations, gifts and experiences.”
Christmas By Numbers
Fun forecasts predict John Lewis will sell enough Christmas trees to create a festive tower from sea level to the edge of space (62 miles of trees to be exact), enough garlands to stretch from Oxford Street to Windsor Castle (23 miles), and enough Christmas crackers for every person who attended an Oasis concert this year to pull at least one each this festive season.
Decorating Trend Predictions
Following high demand last year, John Lewis has increased its range of pre-lit Christmas trees, introducing a new 10ft model for customers who want to go supersized.
Staircase styling and mantlescaping are also predicted to be among the biggest decorating moments of the season. Rustic striped bows and harlequin prints will be key trends, while retro-nostalgic and playful decorations – from a vacuum cleaner to foodie baubles – are tipped to be bestsellers.
