Leeds supermarket chain Abu Bakr launches wedding catering service as Food 2 Go expands into celebrations

Abu BakrLeeds-based supermarket chain Abu Bakr Supermarket has expanded its popular Food 2 Go brand into wedding catering, bringing restaurant-quality Asian cuisine to weddings and celebrations across Yorkshire.

The family-run retailer, which operates stores across Leeds and Batley, has announced the launch of Abu Bakr Food 2 Go Wedding Catering, offering a new catering service for weddings, walimas, engagements, mehndis, nikahs and large family celebrations.

The move comes as the supermarket continues to grow its Food 2 Go brand, which has become popular for its freshly prepared meals, desserts and takeaway options served daily across its stores.

Now, customers can enjoy the same freshly prepared food on a much larger scale, with bespoke catering packages designed for events of all sizes.

The new wedding catering service will offer a wide selection of traditional South Asian dishes alongside contemporary favourites, with menus tailored to each celebration.

From intimate family gatherings to large wedding receptions, Abu Bakr says customers will be able to choose from a range of freshly prepared starters, curries, rice dishes, grills, desserts and drinks, with catering packages designed around individual tastes and guest numbers.

The company says every menu is prepared using quality ingredients and halal meat, with vegetarian and vegan options also available.

Food 2 Go has already built a loyal customer following through its affordable hot food counters across Abu Bakr stores, and the business believes there is growing demand for trusted local brands to cater for special occasions.

Abu Bakr Supermarket has continued to invest in its Food 2 Go concept over the past year, expanding its range of freshly prepared meals and introducing affordable family-friendly food across its stores.

The wedding catering launch represents another step in the company’s wider growth strategy, allowing customers to take the Food 2 Go experience beyond the supermarket and into their biggest celebrations.

The business says the service is available for weddings and events across Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and the wider Yorkshire region.

Managing director Hamza Hussain said the new catering service was inspired by customers who wanted Abu Bakr’s food at family celebrations.

“Food is at the heart of every celebration in our community, especially weddings, and we’ve had so many customers asking if we could cater for their special day.

“Food 2 Go has become a brand people know and trust for fresh, quality food, so launching a dedicated wedding catering service felt like the natural next step.

“Whether it’s a nikah, mehndi, walima or a wedding reception with hundreds of guests, we want to help families celebrate with delicious food and excellent service.”

The new service will offer flexible catering packages for events of different sizes, with options for collection, delivery and full event catering depending on customer requirements.

Abu Bakr says its experienced catering team will work with couples and families to create bespoke menus, helping to cater for traditional celebrations as well as modern wedding receptions.

The retailer believes the expansion reflects the growing popularity of Food 2 Go as it continues to develop into a standalone food brand alongside Abu Bakr Supermarket’s retail business.

With weddings taking place throughout the year across Yorkshire’s diverse communities, Abu Bakr says the new service is designed to provide affordable, high-quality catering while maintaining the flavours and hospitality the supermarket has become known for.
