As demand for premium craft spirits continues to rise, Maharaja Drinks, the UK’s only retailer dedicated exclusively to Indian beverages, unveils its Indian Gin Collection: a curated range of regional gins, created specifically for World Gin Day on June 14th.
From Rajasthan to Karnataka to Goa, the featured gins are distilled across different regions of India, each telling a unique story. Infused with native botanicals, the selection taps into this season’s gin trend of Asian inspired flavours, with ingredients including lemongrass, gondhoraj lime, Indian tea, and exotic spices like cardamom, star anise, and ginger.
Ipe Jacob says ”To make a gin, you of course need juniper as the principal flavouring ingredient – and most juniper berries are typically sourced from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. But Indian gins bring much more to the table. For example, Nao Spirits uses the rarer Himalayan juniper in their Hapusa and Broken Bat gins. These berries are larger, coarser, and far more aromatic than their European counterparts. There’s incredible botanical diversity across Indian gins, which makes this collection perfect for UK drinkers who are exploring craft gin for the first time. It offers a bold yet approachable way to discover something new and adventurous, straight from the heart of India”
The Indian Gin Collection includes:
Terai Gin
Distilled in Rajasthan and named after the lush marshlands at the foothills of the Himalayas, Terai Gin was founded by fourth-generation distiller Shekhar Swarup. Embracing a grain to glass philosophy, Terai uses a house made rice grain spirit infused with eleven botanicals including tulsi and almonds. The result is a London Dry style gin with a uniquely Indian flavour and true spirit of craft.
Nilgiris Gin
Distilled in Karnataka, this gin captures the essence of the Western Ghats, home to rare botanicals growing at 7,000 feet above sea level. Nilgiris Gin features tea from local plantations as a key ingredient, complemented by paan ,a floral, ritualistic herb used widely across India, for a distinct and aromatic finish.
Malhar Gin
Crafted in Goa, Malhar features 11 botanicals including Indian key lime, juniper, lemon peel, orris, and cardamom. Inspired by India’s monsoon season and the classical musical “ragas” that celebrate it, Malhar Gin offers herbaceous aromas, peppery spice, and delicate floral notes.
Hapusa Gin
Another Goan gem, Hapusa is a Himalayan Dry Gin made with eight unique botanicals such as Himalayan juniper, raw mango, turmeric, ginger, cardamom, almonds, coriander, and gondhoraj lime. The result is a bold, aromatic gin that transports you to the Indian hills with every sip.
Indian Gin Collection is available now at Maharaja Drinks for £140.00.
