Marketing ancient history: how retail brands use ancient themes

Along with being a hotbed for fresh trends and innovations, the internet has also emerged as a place for appreciating ancient history. Various famous civilisations such as the ancient Egyptians and Aztecs are represented across the entertainment industry, and they attract a lot of interest.

Various retail brands have also leveraged the timeless appeal of ancient history in their marketing. Along with inspiring designs and branding, ancient eras can also help in advertising. Thanks to the widespread fascination with the past, more brands should turn to ancient periods to boost their numbers.

The online casino industry has leveraged ancient themes well

The online casino industry is one of the best places to see the effect of ancient history on marketing. For example, many people play Temple Tumble Megaways for real money to get a taste of the Aztec era. The game features distinctive architecture and artefacts from the Central American civilisation and gives players a sense that they are archaeological explorers.

Historical themes are arguably more abundant than any other genres in the slots market, highlighting how there’s a huge audience out there interested in them. For example, there are various titles based on ancient Rome, including offerings such as Rome: The Golden Age and Emperor of Rome: Mega Fire Blaze. There are also titles based in ancient Egypt, with Big Egyptian Fortunes and Eye of Horus: Rise of Egypt up there with the most popular options.

Brands in other industries may have noticed the power of ancient themes in the online casino industry, as many other companies have been inspired to use them as well.

Incorporating ancient aesthetics in product design

Some of the world’s best-known brands have turned to ancient eras for inspiration in their product design. Versace, for instance, uses a Medusa-inspired image on its logo. It also often incorporates ancient Greek and Roman-influenced motifs in its fashion and home décor lines.

The luxury brand Bvlgari is another major name that draws heavily on its Roman heritage. Its jewellery collections feature designs inspired by ancient Roman architecture and art. A good example of this is the iconic B.zero1 ring, which is influenced by the Colosseum’s structure. The brand’s logo is based on Roman typography as well, and it helps to add to its grand appeal.

Marketing campaigns with historical narratives

History can be an excellent way to boost marketing campaigns, and various companies have used it to good effect over the years. There are countless examples of adverts that have used ancient legends to create a compelling and memorable image or video clip.

A great example of this was the Cleopatra’s Beauty Secrets campaign from L’Oréal Paris. The advertisements focused on historical imagery and narratives about Cleopatra’s renowned beauty routines, emphasising the use of natural ingredients like honey and milk in  L’Oréal Paris products.

For businesses that want a surefire way to get a lot of people’s attention, it’s always a good approach to take inspiration from ancient times. It has worked well for the online casino industry, as well as some of the world’s best brands.
