Poundland is opening three new stores on 8 April: Weston-super-Mare, Castle Bromwich and Burton, which will also unveil a commemorative blue plaque as Burton is where the Poundland journey started back in 1990 when it opened its first store in the Octagon Centre.
The new store in Weston-super-Mare will be in the Queensway Centre, Bristol Road, Worle, taking over the former Argos site. It will open on 8 April 2023 at 8.00am.
The 5,100 sq ft store will employ 21 full and part-time colleagues and is a second store for Poundland in the town – the other can be found on the High Street and opened in May 2011.
The new Castle Bromwich store will be at 2 Timberley Lane, taking over the former Jack’s supermarket site. It will open on 8 April 2023 at 8.00am.
The 6,500 sq ft store will employ 18 full and part-time colleagues.
Spanning a whopping 15,000 ft – nearly three times the size (6,000sq ft) of a normal Poundland – the super-size Burton store will employ 26 colleagues who will transfer from its Octagon Centre site which will close on 6 April 2023.
The Coopers Square shopping centre store will feature the widest ranges available in the whole of Staffordshire.
Poundland director of retail, Darren Kay, said: “Burton is literally where it all started over 30 years ago and it goes without saying it the town has a very special place in our heart – so we’re thrilled that Burton will be one of the first places in the UK to have one of our special, large destination stores.
“The store’s size will mean there’s more of our amazing value under one roof across more categories than ever before.
“The first six destination stores of this scale we’ve opened so far have wowed customers and we’re thrilled it’s now time to bring that choice to Burton. We can’t wait to open the doors on the 8 April.”
