Sustainable gardening revolution: B&Q’s plastic plant pot recycling

B&Q has announced that it will be launching plastic plant pot recycling stations at over 100 of its stores across the UK in 2024.

As part of B&Q’s commitment to help customers make more sustainable choices, it has installed plant pot recycling stations for people to drop off unwanted plastic plant pots which will then be recycled and turned into new pots – ensuring plastic materials are continually recycled and reused, reducing waste and environmental impact.

The new Blacksmith Planter pot created from the recycled pots, will be available to purchase from B&Q stores, retailing at £4. The pots are made using 100% recycled plastic, are all weather resistant and made in the UK.

This initiative is in line with the concept of the closed-loop circular economy, which seeks to promote resource efficiency and minimise waste by designing products and systems with recycling and sustainability in mind.

Samantha Dyer, head of quality and sustainability at B&Q, said: “As a business we want to make a positive difference through tangible actions and continue to put innovation at the forefront of our approach to helping our customers make more sustainable choices.

“These new recycling stations will allow us to repurpose something that would normally be discarded and help us in our goal to make more sustainable choices easier and more convenient for our customers.”

The new plant pot recycling stations continue B&Q’s heritage of looking after people and the planet, from being an FSC founding member 30 years ago, to launching a peat-free compost in 1991.
