The King’s Cross Group strengthens Coal Drops Yard with new global and independent brands

The King’s Cross Group has announced three new signings at Coal Drops Yard, the retail and dining destination at the heart of the King’s Cross neighbourhood, as it continues to evolve the area’s offer for the people who live, work, visit and spend time there every day.

Global lifestyle brand Anthropologie, artisan cheesecake makers La Maritxu and contemporary adventure clothing brand The Outsiders Store will each bring something distinct to Coal Drops Yard, adding to an offer designed not only to attract shoppers, but to serve residents, office workers and repeat local visitors across the wider estate.

Together, the lettings signal the ongoing evolution of the retail and lifestyle offer under the new leadership of The King’s Cross Group, with a focus on attracting brands that bring originality, quality and lasting appeal.

These new lettings follow a year of strong trading for Coal Drops Yard, where sales grew 20% year on year, further reinforcing its position as one of London’s most compelling retail and lifestyle destinations.

Anthropologie has completed a new lease for one of Coal Drops Yard’s anchor units, comprising 2,852 sq ft. The internationally recognised brand known for its distinctive womenswear, homeware and accessories will bring its design-led offer to King’s Cross, in a store built around the in-person experience the brand is known for.

Also set to open is La Maritxu cheesecakes, which has agreed a new 10-year lease in a prime position on Bagley Walk. The brand will bring its popular Basque-style burnt cheesecakes to Coal Drops Yard, adding another distinctive name to the food and drink line-up.

Existing occupier The Outsiders Store has recommitted to Coal Drops Yard for another 10 years and will upsize into a larger store of more than 3,000 sq ft. Its expansion reflects both the brand’s success at King’s Cross since 2018 and the value of a retail environment where growing businesses can evolve alongside the wider neighbourhood.

Jane Macdiarmid, head of retail at The King’s Cross Group, said: “Coal Drops Yard works best when there is a genuine sense of discovery – where established names sit alongside independents people actively seek out. Anthropologie, La Maritxu and The Outsiders each add something different, and together they create more reasons to come here, spend time and keep coming back.

“We are curating a mix that reflects how people want to use King’s Cross today – whether that’s shopping, eating, meeting friends or discovering somewhere new. It’s a place for our whole community, from visitors to the residents, students and businesses who are here every day.”

Matt Hilgeman, managing director at Anthropologie, said: “We’re excited to open our 21st UK store in Coal Drops Yard, a highly curated, design-led destination in central London that aligns with our creative, culture-driven community. We look forward to joining this vibrant retail destination and bringing Anthropologie into a space that feels culturally relevant and creatively inspiring”.
