Foot Locker and ASICSFoot Locker is launching the new ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 this month, exclusively available as a pre-release at its new Liverpool store from opening day on 23rd, as well as online at footlocker.co.uk from 20th January, before its wider European and UK roll out in February.

First launched in 1993, the GEL-Kayano was created by ASICS designer Toshikazu Kayano, who set out to design a performance running shoe specifically for long-distance runners. More than three decades later, the GEL-Kayano model remains a cornerstone of the ASICS archive, celebrated for its innovation, comfort and enduring design language.

Designed to offer “More energy to move body and mind”, the GEL-Kayano 20 features a dual-layer EVA midsole construction, signature GEL cushioning, and a Guidance Trusstic System to deliver the ultimate balance of support and cushioning. A TPU cage integrated into the FluidFit upper provides an exceptional fit while reinforcing the model’s instantly recognisable design.

To celebrate the opening weekend and exclusive pre-release, Foot Locker is hosting an in-store event on 23rd January, inviting local media, tastemakers and influencers to explore the new GEL-Kayano 20 with inspiration on how to style this ASICS classic. The event will feature a styling session suite, elevated by Liverpool-based DJ Sham Steele, while competitions will run throughout the opening weekend, giving shoppers the chance to win free pairs of the new GEL-Kayano 20, among other rewards.

The new 646 metre store at Liverpool One Shopping District marks the highly anticipated return of Foot Locker bricks-and-mortar in the city, following a brief absence and signals Foot Locker’s renewed commitment to the city’s vibrant sneaker and fashion forward community and creators.

Neil Carter, Foot Locker VP GEO: UK & Ireland added: “Foot Locker’s return to Liverpool is an important moment for us to reconnect with the city’s fashion forward community who understand style, functionality and authenticity everyday. We look forward to starting where we left off, celebrating Liverpool’s vibrant sneaker and style community with exclusive Foot Locker drops – such as the GEL-Kayano 20 – and giveaways to support their wardrobe.”

The black ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 will be released in men’s sizes only ahead of the wider launch of three new SS26 colourways in February, across Europe and the UK.

The store is located at 22-36 Church Street, Liverpool One, L1 3AY.
