Hunter & Gather is ranked one of the sector’s top B Corps

Real Food & Supplements brand, Hunter & Gather, which champions animal based nutrition, has been ranked amongst the best B Corp businesses in the sector with a B impact score of 93.4, more than 10 points higher than the UK average of 82.4.

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies that use business as a force for good, verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Hunter & Gather, which produces best-in-class sauces and supplements made from nutritionally dense and sustainably sourced real food ingredients, was recognised by B Corp for its planet-friendly practices, from its ingredients (its Marine Collagen uses Wild Caught North Atlantic Fish and its Avocado Oil uses ‘rejected’ fruit destined for landfill) to its packaging (which is recyclable).

Amy Moring, co-founder and CEO at Hunter & Gather says: “As a brand that puts people and planet first, receiving a high B Corp score is a huge accolade.

“Within the supplements space, it’s really significant as we’re leading the field in terms of product quality, transparency, and integrity; there aren’t many other brands that can really stand up to scrutiny.

“Our MCT is made from handpicked, sustainably harvested Organic Coconuts that are triple steam distilled for purity, without the use of hexanes or solvents.

“Our Collagen (which is our best-selling range) is made from pasture raised European cattle (Collagen Peptides) and Wild Caught North Atlantic white fish (Marine Collagen) using the skin or hide of the animal that would otherwise go to waste. It’s produced using an innovative enzymatic process without the use of solvents, fillers, bulkers or hormones often found in other brands.

“As a business, we’re proving that you don’t have to be plant-based to be planet-friendly; regenerative agriculture and sustainably sourced, nutritionally dense animal products can contribute positively to healthy ecosystems and biodiversity, and that’s really exciting.”

The brand, which is accredited by the Living Wage Foundation and offers its team private healthcare, personal development planning, and an EMI share scheme, received an exceptionally high B Corp score for team culture (33.5 vs. an average of 16 for the food sector.)

Jeff Webster, co-founder and chief visionary officer at Hunter & Gather, says: “Within our team, we promote a culture where staff can thrive, actively encouraging flexible working and championing women in business. We’re also advocates of stand up desks, walking meetings, and monthly ‘active’ team meetings to promote wellbeing.

“Our community is important too – from the Thrive Reward points we offer our customers to our inaugural Thrive Retreat we organised recently for shareholders.

“As a B Corp, we’re leading the charge for a healthier future for people and planet, and we’re really proud of that.”

How Hunter & Gather is using business as a force for good

  • The brand takes pride in making best-in-class sauces and supplements: Hunter & Gather sauces are handmade in the UK in small batches using 100% natural, real food ingredients and absolutely no added sugar, sweeteners, or nasties.
  • They champion nutritionally dense animal products that contribute positively to healthy ecosystems and biodiversity: Hunter & Gather Collagen Peptides are safely sourced from healthy, grass Fed EU cattle, and their Marine Collagen comes from sustainably wild-caught white fish from the North Atlantic, Norwegian and Barents seas. Both are made from the skin or hide of the animal, which would otherwise go to waste.
  • They actively source organic where possible: Olives for their Organic, Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil are harvested during the day to protect nesting birds, and no animals are used in the harvesting of coconuts for their Organic MCT and Coconut Oils.
  • Ingredients are sustainably sourced: Hunter & Gather uses wonky or rejected avocados from small scale farmers in Kenya for their Cold Pressed Avocado Oil, which would have otherwise been rejected for export and sent to landfill, providing farmers with additional income and avoiding unnecessary food waste.
  • All supplements are lab tested for heavy metals, toxins & pesticides and the brand actively works to highlight the dangers of bulkers, binders and anti-caking agents, which are commonly found in many supplements
  • Packaging is recyclable: The brand uses glass bottles and jars for their oil and mayonnaise products, which can be reused or recycled. They ship all website orders in fully plastic free packing.
  • They promote a thriving community: The brand offers Thrive Reward points to customers, a lifestyle app, a Facebook group, and recently organised its first Thrive Wellbeing Retreat for shareholders.
  • Team culture is strong: The business is accredited by the Living Wage Foundation and all team members have access to private healthcare, a personal development programme and an EMI share scheme
