When the World Cup comes around, we’re always excited, but it seems like the anticipation for this World Cup is greater than ever. We have the unknowns surrounding a winter tournament, bang in the middle of the football season, as well as the sweltering temperatures, which some nations won’t be used to. It sets it up perfectly for a great tournament ahead.
One question on the lips of most football fans is who will take home the Golden Boot? Below, we look at three great goal scorers featured in the 2022 World Cup.
Harry Kane
There is only one place to begin, and this is with Harry Kane. After all, if you look at the Football World Cup outrights, you will see that Harry Kane is currently the favourite to take home this year’s Golden Boot.
He won the accolade at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and many think he can do the same again.
His chances have only been enhanced with the fact that England has been handed what appears to be a good group stage draw, with Wales, Iran, and the United States battling it out for the top two spots. Harry will certainly fancy his chances in these games.
The winter tournament may also work in the Tottenham player’s favour. He is known to be a pretty slow starter in the league, with his goal tally really ramping up a month or two into the season, which should mean he is going to enter the 2022 World Cup at peak performance levels. A terrifying prospect for the opposition!
Kylian Mbappe
Football fans around the world are looking forward to seeing French superstar Kylian Mbappe in this year’s tournament.
France is the most recent winner of the cup. During this campaign, Mbappe was named the tournament’s Best Young Player. He became the first teenager to score in the World Cup final since Pele scored back in 1958.
Four years on from that incredible performance, Mbappe has not looked back. For the past three campaigns, he has been the leading scorer in Ligue 1. In fact, he is only two goals away from becoming the country’s leading international scorer, having amassed 26 goals in 54 caps. And, he is only 23 years old!
Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo has 115 goals in 184 caps, and many records to his name, including the most consecutive major tournaments scored in and the most major tournament goals by a European. Somehow, he always seems to do it on the big stage!
At a bit of a crossroads in his club career, the Manchester United fan has hit the headlines for failing to turn up to pre-season and trying to usher a move away from the club. The reality is, though, it doesn’t really matter where Ronaldo spends the next few months, you can be sure that he will put on a great show for Portugal come November.
