Spencer Matthew’s non-alcoholic spirits brand, CleanCo, takes home double win at Great Taste Awards 2024

Today, the world leading independent non-alcoholic spirits brand* CleanCo announces two Great Taste Award wins for their Clean G (Gin) and Clean T (Tequila) spirits.
These two latest wins for Clean G & Clean T, add to 2023 Great Taste wins for Clean W, Clean R and Clean V.
Founded in 2019 by entrepreneur and British TV personality Spencer Matthews, CleanCo has spearheaded the no and low market, being the first of its kind to offer non-alcoholic alternatives to all major full-strength spirits, with a non-alcoholic Gin, Rhubarb Gin, Vodka, Tequila, Rum and Whiskey in its portfolio.
In just under five years the challenger brand has become the No.1 independent player in the market with CleanCo products sold in major supermarkets and served up as Clean Cocktails in bars and restaurants across the UK & USA.
“When I founded CleanCo there really wasn’t anyone else in the market doing what we are now – a genuine like-for-like replacement to traditional spirits simply didn’t exist. Since then, the market has boomed, consumers have got behind the sober-curious and moderation movement in abundance and both the big and small guys have brought new innovation to the table. I’m pretty stoked to see that despite all this new competition CleanCo is still the best-tasting, winning such prestigious awards as Great Taste. We’ve remained true to our values since day one – we don’t put a single bottle out into market unless we truly believe it delivers on the taste and experience that consumers deserve.”
“When I started my own sober journey the only options available were either water, sugary soft drinks or pretty depressing juice concoction “mocktails” that had no sophistication or thought. It was as if your tastebuds didn’t matter the second you said you weren’t drinking. CleanCo is all about turning this on its head – those who aren’t drinking should be able to have just as good of a time and that starts with delivering the best-tasting liquid out there,” said Spencer.
The Great Taste Awards are globally recognised as one of the most esteemed food and beverage industry accolades, with thousands of products tested each year by an expert panel of over 500 judges.
Great Taste 2024 judges were “impressed” with Clean G and noted that it was an “impressive product” that “mixed well with tonic, which highlighted the floral notes.”
Additionally noting how well the “product replicates the character of a London Dry Gin and how versatile it would be in no and low-cocktails”.   For Clean T, judges complimented the spirit for being “nicely sweet, with a great heat on the palate that’s otherwise delicate and perfectly placed.  The agave is elegant, there’s a tequila familiarity in the mouthfeel” coming with an “elegant note that’s really pleasant”.
“At the end of the day, these are the types of things that really matter when you disrupt a category – true recognition that the product you’ve created, in a space that didn’t exist 5 years ago, truly delivers at its most basic level – simply tasting great. At CleanCo we do things differently to most and channel a huge amount of time and resource to R&D and innovation. This ensures that no matter what we’re always leading the category when it comes to product and flavour. In return our consumers keep coming back for more. These awards are a true testament to our team who bring this to life on a daily basis – Sophie Brisbourne-Rhodes, Global CMO at CleanCo.
The latest Great Taste awards add to CleanCo’s expanding award repertoire, with over 30 awards globally including Great Taste and Gold ISWC awards.   The recent wins come at a pivotal time for the brand as it prepares to unveil a brand refresh in October 2024.
CleanCo’s award-winning products can be found in leading supermarkets, across bars, restaurants and hotels nationally, as well as at www.clean.co.
